How to Add llms.txt to Your Wix Site
Wix is a fully managed platform, which is great for getting online fast and awkward when you need a raw file at your domain root. You cannot FTP into Wix or drop a llms.txt into a public folder. This guide covers the two methods that genuinely work on Wix and is straight about the limitations of each.
First, generate the content
Both Wix methods deliver the same file, so start by generating it. Our tool reads your published pages and produces a clean, correctly structured llms.txt. Enter your Wix domain below, review the Markdown, and keep it handy for the delivery step.
Generate your file:
The structure of the file
An llms.txt file is plain Markdown: a title, a short summary blockquote, and grouped links. It exists to give AI systems a curated overview of your site instead of forcing them to infer structure from raw HTML.
# Your Business Name > One or two sentences describing your Wix > business and the people you serve. ## What We Offer - [Services](https://yourdomain.com/services): Overview. - [Bookings](https://yourdomain.com/book-online): Reserve time. ## Company - [About](https://yourdomain.com/about): Who we are. - [Contact](https://yourdomain.com/contact): Phone and address. ## More - [Blog](https://yourdomain.com/blog): Articles and updates.
Save the output as plain text called llms.txt. You will host this exact text using one of the methods below.
Method 1: URL Redirect Manager (simplest)
In your Wix dashboard, open SEO Tools → URL Redirect Manager. Host your llms.txt on any host that returns raw text — a storage bucket, a GitHub raw URL, or another static host — and add a 301:
Redirect from: /llms.txt Redirect to: https://files.example-host.com/llms.txt Type: 301 (permanent)
This is the fastest route and requires no code. The trade-off is honesty: a request to /llms.txt returns a redirect rather than the content itself. Well-behaved crawlers follow it, but if you want a direct response consider Method 2 or a reverse proxy.
Method 2: A Velo http-function
If you have Velo (Wix's dev mode) enabled, you can serve the content dynamically. Add an http-function that returns the Markdown as text/plain:
// backend/http-functions.js
import { ok } from "wix-http-functions";
export function get_llms(request) {
return ok({
headers: { "Content-Type": "text/plain; charset=utf-8" },
body: `# Your Business Name\n\n> Summary...`,
});
}The catch: this endpoint lives at /_functions/llms, not the root. So you still add a redirect from /llms.txt to that endpoint. Velo is worth it only if you want the file generated in code rather than hosted as a static copy. For most Wix users, Method 1 is enough.
Verify it works
Visit the path
Open https://yourdomain.com/llms.txt and confirm you land on your Markdown content, whether directly or via the redirect.
Inspect headers
curl -I your URL to confirm a 301 that resolves to a text/plain file, or a direct 200 if you used a proxy.
Check every link
Each URL in the file must return 200 on your live Wix site. Remove or fix any that 404.
Run a visibility check
Use our AI Visibility tool to confirm the file is reachable and readable from outside Wix.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I upload a file to my Wix root folder?
Not directly. Wix has a Media Manager for images and documents, but those are served from Wix's asset domain under their own paths, never at your-domain.com/llms.txt. There is no FTP or root file manager, which is why you need a redirect or a Velo endpoint.
Does the Wix URL redirect feature work for /llms.txt?
Yes, with a caveat. The URL Redirect Manager under SEO Tools can 301 /llms.txt to a copy you host elsewhere. Crawlers that follow redirects will reach it, but the response is a redirect rather than a direct 200. It is a reasonable, low-effort option.
What is the Velo approach and when should I use it?
Velo is Wix's developer platform. An http-function can return plain text, but Velo endpoints live under the /_functions/ path, not the root, so you still pair it with a redirect from /llms.txt. Use Velo when you want the content generated dynamically rather than hosted as a static copy.
Will adding llms.txt guarantee my Wix business shows up in AI answers?
No. As of mid-2026 llms.txt is an advisory, proposed standard with no enforcement. Support varies across AI systems and there is no guarantee any model will fetch or use it. It is a sensible signal to publish, not a ranking guarantee.
Does Wix already give me a robots.txt I can edit?
Yes — Wix lets you edit robots.txt through its SEO settings, but that controls crawler access, not content curation. llms.txt is a different, complementary file: robots.txt says what may be crawled; llms.txt hands AI systems a clean map of what matters.
