llms.txt Examples and Templates

The fastest way to understand the llms.txt format is to read good examples of it. Below are five annotated templates for common site types. Each is a complete, copy-ready file — swap in your own name, URLs, and descriptions, and you have a working llms.txt.

How to adapt any template

1

Replace the title

Use your real, recognizable business or site name in the H1.

2

Rewrite the summary

One or two plain sentences: what you do and who you serve. No slogans.

3

Swap the links

Use absolute URLs to your actual pages, grouped under honest section names.

4

Write real descriptions

After each colon, say what the page is and why it matters — briefly.

5

Trim ruthlessly

Keep only pages that represent you well. A shortlist beats a directory.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I copy these templates directly?

Yes — that is what they are for. Replace the placeholder names, URLs, and descriptions with your own. Keep the shape: an H1 title, a blockquote summary, then grouped, described links.

How many links should a template have?

Enough to represent your site, not enough to overwhelm. Most good llms.txt files land somewhere between five and twenty links total. The examples here deliberately stay lean.

Should I write descriptions or leave links bare?

Always write descriptions. The short note after each link is where you add the meaning a URL alone cannot carry. Bare link lists waste the format's main advantage.

Do I need a different template per platform?

The format is the same everywhere — it is just Markdown at your site root. What changes is the content you highlight, not the structure. Pick the template closest to your business type and adapt it.

Will using a template guarantee AI systems read my file?

No. A clean file makes your site easy to parse and improves your odds, but adoption is still emerging and there is no guarantee any particular AI system ingests your llms.txt. Treat it as good hygiene rather than a switch.

Skip the copy-paste

Enter your domain and we'll draft a template pre-filled with your own pages — then you just refine the descriptions.
